News Release

August 31, 2009 TSD-0014(HVJ-E) project was approved by the government-financed aid project for strategic sophistication of Basic Manufacturing Technology

TSD Japan, Inc. ("TSD") is pleased to announce that "the Research and Development of preservation stabilize process of tailor-made biotechnology-based drugs utilizing the vacuum technology" (the "Project"), which TSD, GenomIdea Inc. ("GenomIdea"), AMEFREC Co., Ltd., Osaka University and AIST jointly applied, was approved by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).

TSD and GenomIdea jointly applied this Project, and we will conduct the research and development of this Project which is authorized by METI KANSAI on April 23, 2009 as a specific research and development plan based on "Act for the Sophistication of Basic Manufacturing Technology of Small and Medium Enterprises."

Recently, in pharmaceutical business, it is changed gradually from the model which small molecular drug is mass and uniform production and sale to the one which biotechnology-based drug is tailor-made, high-mix low-volume manufactured. This Project aims to establish a new industrialized system and process which is applicable to such tailor-made biotechnology-based drugs.

It is expected that a tailor-made drug, which is administered each symptom to its best suitable treatment, will be effective on hard-to-cure disease and expand its efficacy. However, for biotechnology-based drugs, it is difficult to adopt the sterile freeze drying technologies for semiconductor or food, or to use the manufacturing technology for mass and uniform production as conventional drugs. Therefore, in this Project, using an inactivated Sendai virus particle (TSD-0014/GEN0101) which TSD and GenomIdea have developed jointly, we evaluate and improve the technology and aim to establish the technology of preservation stability which is best suitable for future manufacturing of biotechnology-based drugs and has high versatility.
